過敏性鼻炎為國人常見問題，臨床定義為暴露在過敏原，由免疫球蛋白Ig E a媒介所引發之鼻黏膜炎症反應，常見症狀有流涕、鼻塞、鼻癢、噴嚏。藥物治療分為口服及鼻內局部使用，局部好處包括：局部區域獲得高濃度劑量，減少全身副作用，但有些病人易產生鼻內結痂或出血，且當鼻黏膜過度腫脹，鼻噴劑或無法有效分佈在大部份鼻黏膜。由於上述考量，病人往往會考慮服用中藥進行治療。

Allergic rhinitis is a common problem. It’s clinical definition is that under exposure to allergens, the nasal mucosal inflammatory response is triggered by immunoglobulin IgE. The common symptoms include rhinorrhea, nasal congestion and nasal itching. The medical treatment is divided into two categories, taking oral doses and adopting intranasal topical application. The benefits of topical application include obtaining a higher concentration dose in the particular area, and reducing systemic side effects. However, some patients may be prone to intranasal scab or bleeding with topical application of medicine, and when the nasal mucosa is excessively swollen, the nasal sprays may not be effectively distributed in most nasal mucosa. As a result of the above considerations, the patients may consider taking traditional Chinese medicine for treatment.
