潰瘍性結腸炎屬於發炎性腸道疾病的一種。目前發病機制尚不明瞭，發病時伴隨持續性腹痛和慢性泄瀉，甚至糞便帶著膿血黏液，嚴重影響生活品質。西醫治療採用抗發炎藥物、類固醇、免疫抑制劑、生物製劑等等。生物製劑效果較佳，但價格昂貴，只有中重症病患能符合健保給付規定。而中醫治療擅長調整體質，改善發炎症狀不遺餘力。本文擬收集華藝線上圖書館和PubMed資料庫至西元2020年3月前的中西文獻，提供潰瘍性結腸炎疾病治療中西觀點。結果顯示西醫治療潰瘍性結腸炎療效機制明確，然部分藥物副作用較大。中醫輔助治療潰瘍性結腸炎在臨床上行之有年，但在實證基礎上仍須更多研究投入發表，方能更臻完備。

Ulcerative colitis is a chronic bowel inflammatory bowel disease. At present, the pathogenesis is still unclear. It is accompanied by abdominal pain and diarrhea, and bloody stool, which seriously affects the quality of life. Western medicine treatment uses anti-inflammatory drugs, steroids, immunosuppressive agents, biological agents, etc. Biologic agents are new and expensive for control of the bowel inflammation. However, the cost of such agent is high and their use is limited to moderate to severe disease in Taiwan after failing conventional therapy. The Chinese medicine treatment is good at adjusting the physique and improving the symptoms of inflammation. This article intends to collect Chinese and Western literature from the Airiti Library and PubMed database until March 2020, to provide Chinese and Western views on the treatment of ulcerative colitis. The results show that Western medicine has a clear therapeutic mechanism for ulcerative colitis, but some drugs have large side effects. TCM-assisted Western medicine has a potential role in the management of ulcerative colitis. More prospective, randomized controlled studies are required to further clarify the role of TCM-assisted therapy for such patients.
