新九針在材料、品質、形狀、性能、作用等方面，比古時候九針都有很大的改進，具有安全、有效、經濟、使用方便、適應症廣、易於掌握等特點。古代九針的功用如鑱針用於淺刺排泄熱邪；圓針用於按摩皮肉，疏泄分肉中氣血；鍉針用於治療脈氣虛少者；鋒針用於刺絡放血；鈹針用於排膿放血，治療癰腫；圓利針用於治療急性痹證、暴烈邪氣；大針用於關節水腫。師懷堂教授將針具改良，並擴大用途，例如火鑱針在口腔粘膜劃割法，治療面神經麻痹。在背部俞穴劃割欲於治療外感表證；磁圓梅針綜合圓針、梅花針、磁療三種治療方法的治療作用，常用順經脈走行方向輕度叩刺為補法，逆經脈走行方向重度叩刺為瀉法；小鍉針刺法包括火鍉針刺法和火鍉針－火鈹針聯合刺法。鋒勾針療法既有刺絡脈疏通瘀血的鋒針作用，又有勾割肌纖維的勾針作用，適用於一些急性或痙攣性及某些慢性疾患所致的局部功能障礙。新鈹針是將鈹針燒熱後烙割表皮贅生物和切開排膿的一種獨特的針刺方法，主要用於皮膚外科。新圓利針對某些重症、頑症、急症尤為適用，如癲癇、坐骨神經痛、三叉神經痛、神經性皮炎等。三棱針是古代的鋒針，主要用於瀉熱出血，具有醒腻開竅，泄熱消腫，去痰止痛等作用。新九針梅花針針法主要是以叩擊的方式淺刺皮膚。輕度手法適應於虛證久病者，重度點刺法適應於外傷、瘀血腫痛、昏仆等症。根據考證，火針是《內經》所記載的「大針」。新九針火針療法是在乙醇燈上加熱至紅亮後，點灼皮膚或烙燙病變組織用以治療疾病的一種獨特的針刺方法，臨床適用於內、外、婦、兒等各科的近百種病證。在新九針療法中，施針方式有主有輔。許多病證，通過不同針具的合理配伍施治，可取得較滿意療效。

Cutting the Shu point on the back is intended to treat external symptoms; Magnetic- Round-Plum acupuncture combines the therapeutic effects of three treatment methods: Round needle, plum-blossom needle, and magnetic therapy. Mild tapping along the direction of the meridians is commonly used as a tonic method, and against the direction of the meridians is a decreased method. Severe tapping is a purgative method; small Push needle includes fire acupuncture and fire acupuncture-fire beryllium acupuncture combined acupuncture. Sharp-hook acupuncture therapy not only has the action of sharp needles to puncture collaterals and dredge blood stasis, but also has the action of hook acupuncture to cut muscle fibers. It is suitable for local dysfunction caused by some acute or spasmodic diseases and some chronic diseases. The new beryllium needle is a unique acupuncture method that uses heated beryllium needles to cut epidermal growths and incise and drain pus. It is mainly used in skin surgery. New round-sharp needle is especially suitable for certain severe, stubborn and emergency diseases, such as epilepsy, sciatica, trigeminal neuralgia, neurodermatitis, etc. The three-edged needle is an ancient sharp needle. It is mainly used for purging heat and bleeding. It has the functions of refreshing the brain, resuscitating the brain, dispelling heat and reducing swelling, removing phlegm and relieving pain. The new nine-needle plum blossom acupuncture method mainly uses tapping to lightly puncture the skin. Mild manipulation is suitable for patients with chronic diseases due to deficiency syndrome, while severe acupuncture is suitable for trauma, blood stasis, swelling and pain, and coma. According to textual research, fire needle is the "big needle" recorded in the "Nei Jing". New nine-needle fire acupuncture therapy is a unique acupuncture method that uses an ethanol lamp to heat the needle until it becomes red and bright, and then burns the skin or burns the diseased tissue to treat diseases. It is clinically suitable for internal medicine, surgery, gynecology, pediatrics and other departments. Nearly a hundred kinds of diseases and syndromes. In the new nine-needle therapy, there are primary and secondary acupuncture methods.
