精神科病房是醫院內最常發生暴力行為之場所，且醫護人員為照護病人中的最前線，時常經歷或目睹暴力行為出現而造成醫護人員生理、心理嚴重創傷。依單位急性病房異常事件統計，不但暴力事件為第一名，且近三個月內有四位同仁因為約束病人而受傷。為提升勤務人員暴力處理技術，成功改善保護室刷卡門禁系統與訂定醫護溝通的時間，成立專案小組，以病人安全為目標自2011年11月至2012年3月主動學習將巴西柔術防身術運用於暴力事件處理技巧，達到以人員零傷害之預定專案目標。精神科護理師主動提升病人安全、創新的護理技術將暴力處理技巧分享與教學其他跨領域與跨院等，成功營造自我角色的價值。

Violent behavior in psychiatric units is the number one reported incident. Direct care nurses are easy targets and suffer both physically and mentally from violent threats and actual attacks. There were four staff injures in a 3-month period while trying to restrain adult psychiatric patients, which prompted a project on improvement of restraint technique. The project objective at was to prevent violent behavior and protect both patients and staff. Nursing staff attended classes to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu self-defense skills to ensure safety in violent patient handling. The unit also improved confinement room safety by implementing a keycard-based security system and staff communication schedule. During the five-month evaluation period, there was no injury report during restraining of angry, emotional or violent patients.
