近二十年來肥胖老人之盛行率明顯的上升，肥胖是老年人罹患非傳染性，如心血管疾病、2型糖尿病、關節炎、中風和部分癌症之危險因子，它也會增加老年人身體和認知殘疾的風險，這些都會影響到醫療支出和長期照護服務之需求。為了提高肥胖老年年人活動表現，認知功能和的生活品質，小小的改變其生活方式（飲食與運動）即可以產生巨大的效益。

Obesity among the older adults has been increasing in the past 20 years. It is an important influence factor of non-communicable disease. The adverse consequences of obesity include cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, arthritis, stroke, cancers, and increased risk for physical and cognitive disability. These chronic disabilities affect resources for medical and social services. Small changes in life style, diet and exercise of senior adults may have enormous benefit on their level of activity performance, cognitive function, and quality of life.
