台灣快速變遷之高齡化社會中約有四分之一的老年人經歷憂鬱、焦慮、癡呆或急慢性精神疾病。為因應精神衛生照護之需要，護理專業及護理教育亟需要新的策略，以發展切合於台灣社會老年精神衛生照護需要之護理能力及課程，以提升護理人員精進老年精神衛生護理能力並增加護理人力資源。本文探討美國老年精神護理能力精進（GPNCE）和跨專業協作實踐能力的發展經驗，藉此經驗了解基層護理師、精神衛生臨床護理專家和精神專科護理師的角色功能及專業能力。本文也討論台灣老年精神衛生護理能力和教育體系之發展並提出建議。期望護理人員能具有老年精神衛生護理能力，與其他專業團隊合作，建立以老年人為中心，安全及具品質的精神心理健康護理。

This article explores the development of geropsychiatric nursing competency enhancements (GPNCE) and interprofessional collaborative practice in the United States. The GPNCE includes the role functions and competences of primary level geropsychiatric professional nurses, psychiatric mental health clinical nurse specialists and psychiatric nursing practitioners. This article also discusses current and future development of geropsychiatric education and care systems for elders in Taiwan. There is an increase in the aging population in Taiwan and about a quarter of them experienced depression, anxiety, dementia, or acute/chronic psychiatric disorders. There are needs to develop geropsychiatric nursing education curriculum and competent geropsychiatric health care professionals in Taiwan. The hope is to establish an elder-centered safe and quality of mental health care to elevate nurses' competency to effectively collaborate with allied healthcare professionals.
