The COVID-19 is ravaging the world, and its unpredictable and highly contagious nature has brought unprecedented resource consumption and staff requirements to the healthcare system. Hospitals start advance deployment to prevent in-hospital infection and reduce human resources. The nursing department is the most important operational hub for pandemic prevention, and leadership affects the operation of the department and the achievement of goals. The presence and voice of nursing leadership in times of crisis eases staff's anxiety and allows for an organized response to the epidemic in each of the wards under their care. Given the previous literature, the preparation and enhancement of nursing staff competencies are mostly discussed but less addressed to the leadership of the nursing department. This article aims to share the leadership actions of the nursing department of a military hospital in the face of the emerging COVID-19 pandemic through integrating the planning, organization, guidance, coordination, and control strategies. The nursing leadership actions include decisions on the pandemic prevention regulation and practice strategies, ward human resource consolidation, the establishment of information transmission platform, educational guidelines, inter-departmental communication and coordination, and supervision of the infection control, et al. We hope to pass on our experience and work together to prevent the spread of emerging infectious diseases.
