在五倫(君臣、父子、夫婦、兄弟、朋友)中,以父子關係最無可取代,而孝就是直接從親子關係發展出來的一種德行。孔子重視孝道,在《論語》中屢見孔子與其弟子論孝的篇章。透過記載不難發現孔子論孝的實踐,隱約已與為政相關,以孝為治的想法呼之欲出。其中,《論語》記載孔子云:「三年無改於父之道,可謂孝矣。」這段話先後出現在〈學而〉篇與〈里仁〉篇,是重複抄錄了,還是不同弟子在不同場合的聽聞記錄?不論何者,都可見孔子對於「三年無改於父之道」的強調。然而,孔子對孝的具體要求為何?為何會有「三年無改於父之道」一說?本文嘗試透過梳理《論語》孔子對孝的論述,對照歷來學者對「三年無改於父之道」的詮釋,進一步分析「三年無改於父之道」所隱藏的政治意涵。

英文摘要

The relationship between father and son is the most irreplaceable one among the very five human relationships, from which the virtue of filial piety is said to be constituted. Given a number of paragraphs in the Analects in which Confucius disusses with his disciples about what filial piety (xiao 孝) means, it can be claimed not only that Confucius especially prefers to this virtue, but that he has an intention to situate the activity of filial piety within the political context-an idea of considering the family relationship the essence of social order. Among those focusing on the concept of xiao, one paragraph has been paid much more attention, which occurs two times in the Analects: "The Master said, '......If, for three years, he makes no changes to his father's ways, he can be said to be a good son.'" It is obvious that for Confucius, one, as a filial son, does not have a dispositon to change his father's ways. But why Confucius holds this claim? How can the detail of filial love be understood in the context of Analects? This article attempts to analyze, with a comparison with a number of scholars' interpretations, Confucius's discourses of the concept of xiao, and to argue that xiao, as being unchangeable of one's father's ways, does imply a political significance.
