Since the period of Japanese occupation, baseball has been introduced to Taiwan from Japan for a century. There have been quite a few Taiwanese student baseball players studying abroad in Japan and extending their baseball dream. The gate for Taiwanese student baseball players to study in Japan has been since Lo Dau-hou and other four people who played in Neng Kao Baseball Team went abroad to Japan in 1926. In recent years, there have been some successful cases like Yang Dai-gang, Li Du-shiuan and Shiau Yi-jie who joined Nippon Professional Baseball as foreign students and had led a trend of studying abroad to Japan. The main purpose of this study is to discover the factors, the process, and the results. Content Analysis and Semi-structural Interviews are adopted to collect related documents and interview data. By marshalling and combining these data, the following conclusions are summarized: 1. The aim of the Taiwanese baseball students study in Japan was continued of a baseball career in 1926. 2. After 2001, in addition to players' willing and family support, the factors of Taiwanese student baseball players' studying abroad include the attraction of the environment of Japanese baseball and the qualification of joining Nippon Professional Baseball as a non-foreign player, 3. The intensity of training is higher and the duration of training is longer in Japan than in Taiwan, and the education focusing on schoolwork is more highly viewed in Japan. 4. There is a significant progress in language abilities, baseball skills, manners, and self-control after studying abroad in Japan. 5. The chance of being a Nippon Professional Baseball player is relatively low as a foreign student.
