To explore the organization and attributes of rural tourism from the perspective of tourism spatial structure will provide a theoretical basis for establishing the spatial location and product characteristics and practicing regional cooperation and competition. This paper takes shanghai as an example to analyze shanghai rural tourism spatial distribution and tourism spatial structure via GIS technology, nearest-neighbor index and network topology on the basis of defining the concept of rural tourism. First, the definition of rural tourism derives from three aspects: the venue, the essence and the source of tourists, then it also gives an expansion of the study objects by combining shanghai rural tourism's characteristics. The study finds that rural tourism destinations of Shanghai mainly concentrate within 30-60km from the city center, especial in 40km, and distribute three blocks, which is the north of Hangzhou Bay, the western suburban of Shanghai and the Chongming three islands. Then, according to the characteristics of rural tourism resources, rural tourism products here are divided into three types: agricultural, vacation and culture. And the three types will be probed. Then, the paper analyses its concentration degree of rural tourism resource by using the nearest-neighbor index, research shows that it is aggregated distribution; and analyses its development degree of rural tourism transportation by using network topology, research shows that its connection and accessibility of its tourism traffic are weak. Finally, via the analysis of shanghai rural tourist market, the paper gives measures to the development of shanghai rural tourism accordingly.
