Zhejiang Province borders on Kunshan City of Jiangshu Province, where the Kunju Opera originated and later spread outward. In Zhejiang, there appeared various branch schools of the Kun tunes outnumbering all other provinces. For example, there were the Xinggong School in the Hang Jia Hu area, the Yongkun School in Ningbo City, the Jinkun School in Jinhua City, the Wenkun School in Wenzhou City, and the Kunju Opera in Shaoxing City. All these schools with their respective characteristics made enormous contributions to the survival and development of the Kunju Opera. Scholarships on this subject by previous and contemporary experts however, including various lexicons, give only brief introductions with still many omissions and mistakes. This article makes complementary explanations to each school and invites comments from esteemed masters. |
