The youth version of Kungu Opera「The Peony Pavilion」 is adapted from the classical 「The Peony Pavilion」 from a Chinese playwright, Tang Xian-Zu, of the Ming Dynasty, and is promoted by a distinguished scholar named Mr. Pai Hsien-Yong, now living in United Sates. Elitist of the traditional opera culture in Greater China are gathered to perform in this youth-oriented play. The play has been performed since 2004 in Taiwan, Hong Kong, China and United States for nearly 200 times; it attracts lots of people to watch in every single time and leads to a great success. In addition, the play for the innovation and development of current, research, preservation and heritage of great significance and value.In this paper, the youth version of Kunqu Opera ”The Peony Pavilion” music tradition and innovation practices, research and analysis to explore how to retain creative drama music tunes and the institutional norms and create new features and performance style, continuation and development of traditional opera new look. The study includes analysis of the opera singing style, theme music, theme choral and music, orchestration approach, hoping that through this study, sorted out some of the musical content, providing music researchers and composers reference.
