Challenges faced in school leadership in Singapore schools over the last 18 months of the COVID-19 pandemic have been unprecedented. Singapore school leaders readily braced up to numerous directives from senior officials on safe management measures and promptly communicated such directives for expedient implementation by the school staff. Disruptions in the pre-COVID teaching and learning environment were inevitably extensive. Research conducted at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the perceptions of 26 school leaders in relation to their changing roles as leaders of future-ready learners. Responses of these leaders on the knowledge, competencies and skills necessary for effective leadership in the post-COVID era provided useful data for implications on school leadership. In response to the changes, challenges and opportunities in the 21^(st) C new normal, school leaders need to demonstrate 'LEADER' qualities.
