Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of flat feet with and without plantar fasciitis symptoms on multi-segment foot kinematics during running. Methods: Ten flat feet without plantar fasciitis symptoms (age: 21.2 ± 1.03 years, height: 170 ± 8.33 cm, weight: 70.21 ± 9.14 kg, arch index: .37 ± .02) and ten flat feet with plantar fasciitis symptoms (age: 25.7 ± 6.49 years, height: 166 ± 8.27 cm, weight: 69.65 ± 16.95 kg, arch index: .35 ± .02) participated in this study. The participant performed three running at a self-selected speed. Eight infrared high-speed cameras and one force platform were used to collect multi-foot segment kinematics. Results: The flat feet with plantar fasciitis symptoms demonstrated smaller fore-foot dorsiflexion angle at initial contact than flat feet without plantar fasciitis symptoms (p = .02; Effect size = 1.07). Other variables were not significant (p > .05). Conclusion: This study found decreased fore-foot dorsiflexion angle at initial contact in flat feet with plantar fasciitis symptoms suggesting that flat feet with plantar fasciitis symptoms mainly influenced fore-foot kinematics in sagittal plane.
