漳平永福閩南話毗鄰閩西客語，屬閩南西片方言區。因長期閩客接觸，永福話發展出有別與廈、漳、泉等核心閩南的音系特色。永福話的基底為漳州話，現代音讀形式雖有諸多變異，但其音系仍為漳州格局，其特點可分為「閩南西片方言的共同特徵」與「漳平永福話的特殊發展」兩類，前者以零聲母字在高元音i、u前增生新聲母g為代表，後者則以宕開三白讀的鍊動演變最顯著。永福話在自身的閩南「基底」下，因外部方言影響，觸動自身的音韻系統變遷，並非只是單純的語音移借，音變皆具條理可尋。

The Zhangping Yongfu (漳平永福)dialect is part of the dialect continuum found in the western part of Southern Min, and is used in the transitional zone between Min and Hakka. Due to the long-term interaction between Min and Hakka peoples, the Yongfu dialect in southwestern Fujian(福建)has developed unique phonological characteristics, which are different from common Southern Min dialects such as Amoy(廈門), Zhangzhou(漳州) and Quanzhou(泉州). The basis of the Yongfu dialect is the Zhangzhou dialect even though the pronunciation forms of Yongfu are very different from those of Zhangzhou, The phonological characteristics of the Yongfu dialect can be categorized into the following two groups: the common features of dialects found in the western part of Southern Min, and unique developments found in the Yongfu dialect. The former category denotes the evolution from exposure to Hakka dialects, which can be demonstrated by the addition of an initial g before i or u vowels. Characteristics belonging to the the latter category are most clearly evident in the chain shift where Tang Kai San(宕開三)becomes the rhyme iη。
