儘管過往研究已指出,圖像能觸發設計師的想像力,但始終無法提出如何影響的科學證據。農業傳播領域所學推廣服務和活動創意,與設計想像密切相關,其工作性質可被視為設計師。因為上述研究缺憾,本研究整合質性訪談與腦波偵測兩種方法,解釋不同類型圖像對農業傳播學生之五種想像力指標的影響,並分析不同想像力指標的腦波樣貌。參與本研究的實驗對象為10名具高度想像力的農業傳播學系學生,實驗素材係以3位知名畫家的作品做為觸發想像之媒材。本研究從訪談資料歸納出,具豐富元素的抽象圖像有利於觸發新穎和多產的想像,超現實或抽象圖像將助益探索和轉用的想像,而寫實圖像可增進具象想像。不同想像力指標在圖像觸發下的腦波樣貌互異,但本研究發現,α波在右腦顳葉區、β波多在右腦額頂及右顳枕葉兩區、γ波在右腦顳葉區,多顯現出較為活化的狀態。

Previous studies have indicated that pictorial representations stimulate designer imagination; however, scientific evidence on the mechanism of this influence is scant. Agricultural communication (AC) strongly depends on designer imagination because designing extension services for rural innovation involves AC; hence, AC workers could be perceived as designers. To reduce the aforementioned research gap, structural interviews were used in this study to analyse the effects of different pictorial representations on the five imaginative capacity indicators of 10 AC students possessing strong imagination, combined with brain activities measured by electroencephalography (EEG) to analyze the brainwave patterns of the five indicators. The experimental stimuli were the pictures from three renowned artists. The results indicated that abstract representations with humorous visual elements are beneficial for stimulating both novelty and productivity indicators, surrealist and abstract representations are beneficial for stimulating both exploration and transformation indicators, and realistic representations are beneficial for stimulating crystallisation indicators. The results also determine that though the brainwave patterns for each of the five indicators varied; nevertheless, compared with other brain areas, α waves were stronger in the right temporal cortex, β waves were more activated in both the right fronto-parietal and right temporo-occipital cortexes, and γ wave activities were more associated with the right temporal cortex.
