Purpose: To investigate the correlation between 800m walk/run and maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) in university female students, and to establish a prediction equation of VO2max. Methods: Twelve (12) volunteer subjects were recruited (age: 19.8 ± 2.1 yr, height: 160.8 ± 3.9 cm, weight: 53.5 ± 5.2 kg, BMI: 20.7 ± 1.9 kg/m^2), all subjects received two experimental treatments in random order, including 800m walk/run test on the track and the treadmill test for VO2max in the laboratory. Two tests were separated by at least 7 days. The data were analyzed by SPSS 19.0 statistical software. The correlation between 800m walk/run and VO2max were tested by Pearson product-moment correlation, and established the prediction equation by simple regression analysis. All data were showed as mean ± standard deviation, the significance level was set at p< .05. Results: The correlation between 800m walk/run and VO2max was r =- .703(p< .05), and the prediction established by regression equation was VO2max (ml/kg/min) = 76.61 - .142 × 800m walk/run time (second), coefficient of determination r^2 = .494, standard error of estimation was SEE = 3.90. Conclusion: The data in this study indicate university female students 800m walk/run performance was significantly related to VO2max, and the 800m walk/run time can be used for VO2max prediction equation.
