The spinning butterfly is one of the most classical actions in Wushu. The movement could be separated into run-up, take off, leg swing, twist during flight, and landing phases. In the run-up and take off phases, the martial artists need to increase the horizontal velocity and vertical velocity at crucial point. Consequently, the leg swing and twist during flight phases are aimed to reduce the moment of inertia to improve the angular velocity for body twist. Finally, the athletes are required to simultaneously landing in the field with both foots during the landing phase to reduce the mistakes and increase the stability. In this study, the rules and movement procedures were discussed. Thus, the coaches and athletics should have an insight into the biomechanics of spinning butterfly in Wushu and modification on training programs to advance in motor learning and improve the performances.
