The closed confines of large passenger cruise ships have a high risk of infectious outbreaks during pandemics; therefore, the task of screening measures at the port of entry is critically important. There were 1738 (67%) tourist passengers and 776 (33%) crew members on the cruise ship Superstar Aquarius. Of all the tourist passengers, 68 (3.91%) were asymptomatic foreigners with travel history to China and 58 (3.33%) were symptomatic Taiwanese without travel history to China. Only two crew members had symptoms and travel history to China. Within the 10 hours after ship's arrival, 128 passengers were selected for COVID-19 screening tests, and all of them showed negative results. This achievement was possibly made due to the immediate help of physicians, nurses, standby of psychologists and other health professionals and the valuable experiences obtained from the SARS epidemic in 2003. Much credit was also given to the National Health Command Center (NHCC) for their leadership, professionalism and efficiency. Hospitals of the Ministry of Health have currently participated in many epidemic prevention tasks. By participating screening measures for COVID-19 on the Superstar Aquarius cruise ship, the public health sector exhibited its importance in the well-being of the general public and successful epidemic control in Taiwan.
