In The Human World in Zhuangzi, Confucius revealed the "Heart fasting" way of life to Yanhui. There is a phrase "no door no poison" in this passage which has always been interpreted very broadly by scholars. In particular, no consensus has been reached on how to define the meaning of the word "poison". This article pursues what may potentially be an appropriate interpretation for this phrase by reviewing its various readings by scholars. The guidelines for the review and the methods of research were as follows: If "poison" is a borrowed graph, in order to verify the similarities, its sound, including initials and finals, must be examined. In addition to these three methods, which are frequently employed in explaining the words in ancient Chinese classics and exegesis, another research method was used that has not been used by previous researchers when discussing this issue. This method is, firstly, to single out the phrases with the pattern of "No ○ No ○" in Zhuangzi, analyze these phrases to determine their deep structure, then, based on their deep structure, discern their semantics. Finally, through the four methods mentioned above, and with references made to the relevant ancient literature and the philosophy conveyed through The Human World in Zhuangzi.
