癌幹細胞在血液中未分化之前，G_0在中國醫學科學哲學中屬於「太極」混沌，分化之始動，屬於「傷寒雜病論」之「太陽經表風熱」，慢慢繼續分化，就進入「少陽經」半表半裡，才有腫瘤熱的日晡發熱、盜汗、乾咳；再分化進入「三陽經併病」「表裡三焦實熱」，產生腫瘤實體，快速分化增生，其血管生成因子屬「血熱」；腫瘤患部四周代謝廢物累積屬「濕熱」或「痰熱」或「寒濕」；腫瘤的自我防衛過緊密及抗藥性的產生屬「瘀阻」或「寒瘀」，…等等各有不同西醫腫瘤的病程，中醫藥科學及對應治法與方劑，在中醫稱為「辨証論治」。當西醫介入癌腫瘤治療後，中醫要如何配合呢？須先了解西藥的作用在何處？副作用有那些？依血檢與症象、病程之不同，分別有中醫方劑藥物的治療。不可像市面上「特效方」的用藥法，否則不只加重病情，戕害生機，且腫瘤惡化速度會更快。中國人喜歡「補」，喜歡增強免疫，癌腫瘤係大熱証，不准補，不准增強免疫，否則免疫過亢，癌腫瘤會增生與惡化速度快。只有在西醫化療或放療時抑制造血，或內外分泌腺體萎縮，或已經化療而腫瘤標記仍快速增長，且苦寒退熱藥無效時，才能加入補氣、補血或補陽等。當腫瘤控制下來，或已凋亡，或已鈣化了，病情緩解一段時間，可能三五週後，或一二個月後，如發現腫瘤標記又有點自低標準慢慢增高，此時就恢復到未被中西醫藥與治法干擾的「本態」，就必須再回歸到「太極」之初或將分化、或已分化的癌幹細胞治療法。

Cancer stem cells that have temporarily or reversibly stopped differen-tiating are said to have entered a state of quiescence called G0 phase. From the underlying philosophical foundations of Chinese medicine, the G0 phase can be interpreted as Tai Ji (Ultimate Extremes) as it exists in chaos or Wu Ji (Ultimate Nothingness) state, a state of undifferentiated absolute and infinite potential, oneness before duality. Once the process of cell differentiation begins, the channel passage and six-channel pattern identification explained in On Cold Damage and Miscellaneous Diseases can be clinically applied. At the onset of cell differentiation, this condition can be identified as Tai Yang exterior wind-heat pattern. As differentiation continues, neoplastic fever manifests with its symptoms of late afternoon tidal heat (fever), night sweating, and dry cough, which can be identified as Shao Yang half-exterior half-interior pattern. And further differentiation that manifests in the formation of a solid tumor can be identified as the three yang channel concurrent disease or exterior-interior triple burner repletion heat pattern. In this stage, the rapid differentiation and proliferation with vascular growth factors that stimulate angiogenesis can be identified as blood heat pattern. The buildup of metabolic waste around the periphery of the tumor can be identified as damp-heat, phlegm-heat, or cold-damp pattern. The malignant tumors capacity to fortify its defenses and protect itself against attack results in drug resistance, which can be identified as stasis obstruction or cold-stasis pattern. Chinese medicine offers therapeutic methods and medicinal formulas for the various types of malignancies and their various stages of development through the application of pattern identification as the basis for determining treatment. Once Western medicine intervenes in the cancer treatment process, Chinese medicine must first understand the actions of these Western medicine therapies and the types of side effects that may occur as a result of the treatment. And then, based on the lab test results, signs and symptoms, and course of disease, we must determine the appropriate Chinese medicine formula for administration. These formulas must not be modeled after the ＂over-the-counter＂ anticancer formulas sold on the market and touted as miracle cures, which inevitably end up damaging right qi and causing the cancer to proliferate even faster. Chinese people like to ＂supplement＂ as a means of boosting the immune system. But cancer is a great heat pattern pathocondition, so you must not ＂supplement＂ to boost the immune system. Otherwise, the immune system will become hyperactive and the cancer will proliferate even faster. The only time you need to add qi-, blood-, and yang-supplementing medicinals to your main formula is when Western medicine intervention with chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy has been administered, resulting in the suppression of hematopoiesis, atrophy of endocrine and exocrine glands, or if tumor markers continue rapidly increasing following administration of chemotherapy. When the tumor has been controlled, or even if apoptosis or calcification has occurred, and the condition then goes into remission for a period of time, it may be 3 to 5 weeks or a couple of months later that the tumor markers gradually start increasing up from normal levels. It is at this pivotal moment when the cancer can be identified as having returned to the ＂essential state＂ (or ＂root state＂) that existed prior to Chinese and Western medicine therapeutic intervention. In the ＂essential state＂ (or ＂root state＂), you must return to the therapeutic approach used in the Tai Ji (Ultimate Extremes) state, when the cancer stem cells are at the onset of, on the verge of, or have already differentiated.
