專利為知識經濟社會中越來越重要之智慧財產權，而自行車產業為達成永續綠色環境之重要產業。本研究以自行車專利為例，分析台灣自行車產業於全球高度競爭環境下之智慧財產布局概況。本研究下載美國專利商標局（United States Patent and Trademark Office，USPTO）於1976至2010年所核准之自行車專利共5526筆，分析1）全球自行車專利之整體技術樣貌，2）台灣自行車專利專利布局。透過美國專利來了解自行車產業技術發展樣貌，以及建議台灣如何透過策略性智慧財產展管理來提升全球競爭力。本研究發現，全球自行車專利中，前三大所有權人國家依序為日本、美國、台灣，主要產業類別為機械產業，而美國可能最主要用有核心技術的國家。

The importance of patent, as a type of intellectual property, is getting increased in the knowledge-based society. Due to the rise of green concept, bicycle industry has become a hot industry for sustaining green environment. The research aims to investigate bicycle patents and observe how Taiwan's intellectual property strategies survive global competition as well as analyze the knowledge flows among patented technologies in bicycle industry. This study downloads bicycle patents approved by USPTO between 1976 and 2010. A total of 5526 bicycle patents are downloaded and analyzed. An overview of global bicycle industry is analyzed and key technologies are identified, in order to obtain 1) global bicycle patent map first, and 2) Taiwan's bicycle patent portfolio. The results obtained in this study seek to reach in-depth understanding on bicycle industry from the perspective of USPTO patents and suggest how Taiwan can upgrade global competitiveness by strategic intellectual property management. It is found that Japan, USA and Taiwan are the top three assignee countries, most of bicycle patents belong to mechanical and USA is the country with the most core-technologies in bicycle industry.
