The purpose of the study was to analyze the health status of the different freshmen classes from the year 2005 to 2007. Four thousand one hundred and thirty students participated in the study, 2450 male students with average age at 18.50±0.67 years, height at 171.91±6.02 cm, weight at 66.55±14.34 kg, and 1680 female students with average age at 18.50±0.67 years, height at 159.27±5.50 cm, 52.32±9.91 kg. SPSS for Window 10.0 version was used for data analyses including descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA and Pearson correlation. The results of the study showed as follow: 1. 26.63% of the freshmen class had regular exercise habit, male 32.61% and female 17.92%. There was a tendency of decline regular exercise habit as the year progress. 2. 16.04% male and 6.43% female students were classified as endomorph (20% more than BMI standard). 3. There were 23.22% male and 6.61% female students with smoking habit. The male students smoking rate was dropping; however, the rate for female students was rising. 4. There were 9.43% male and 3.45% female students with drinking habit. The rate of picking up this habit was increasing 5. There were 30.22% of our freshmen class perceived themselves healthier compare to the same age group, and the percentage was increasing. 6. Regardless of gender difference, students with regular exercise habit, no drinking and smoking habits perceived themselves healthier than those students with counterpart habits (P<.05) 7. There were significant differences between BMI classes on self perception of their health status (P<.05). 8. There was a positive correlation between self perception of health status and regular exercise habit (P<.05) and negative correlation between BMI index and smoking habit, drinking habit and self perception of health status (P<.05). |
