The purpose of this study is to explore the possible application of translated Taiwanese songs to effectively teaching basic sentence patterns to technological university students as well as to promoting their motivation for learning English. Forty-five freshmen from a technological university in northern Taiwan participated in this study. They were asked to choose their own partners, forming groups of five members. Each group was then required to translate in parts one self-selected Taiwanese popular song with targeted sentence patterns and to report their reflections individually about the group project to the researcher at the end of the semester. To ease the task for students, the researcher demonstrated one or two songs by singing and translating in each meeting. The results showed that over 80% of the participants enjoyed the group project a great deal and found it helpful in improving their learning of basic English sentence patterns. However, several problems were also observed from the data collected, including group members'lack of commitment. Some pedagogical implications and suggestions were presented in conclusion.

本研究旨在探討如何運用台語歌曲來提升技職生學習英語基本句型之成效。實驗對象為北台灣一所科技大學一年級的學生。他們依指示自由分組,每組要翻譯一首的台語歌曲,並於期末繳交個人學習心得。課中研究者示範如何簡譯台語歌曲來學習英語基本句型。研究結果顯示,多數實驗對象相當喜歡此一活動,且覺得有助於他們學習英語基本句型。不過,部分問題也被發掘出來,包括組員缺乏承諾等等。文末並提出教學上的啟示與建議。
