This research aims at using melodies to enhance student motivation towards English learning and to improve technological university students' learning of English expressions. Fifty non-English-major freshmen from a technological university in northern Taiwan participated in this study. They were first asked to form groups of three to five members and then to put what English expressions they want to learn intheir selected melodies. Finally each group member had to turn in his/her reflections individually about the group project at the end of the semester. To make the task easy for the participants, the researcher demonstrated one or two melodies with targeted English expressions in each lesson. The results showed that over 85% of the participants enjoyed the group project and found it helpful in promoting their learning of English expressions. However, several problems were also observed from the data collected such as group members' irresponsibility. Some pedagogical implications and suggestions were presented in conclusion.
