This paper has comparatively analyzed North Korean battle themed novels which had been published in 1950s, such as ”son at battlefront” by Li Xiangxian, ”Old and young soldiers” by Yin Shizhong, ”Burning Island” by Huang Jian, etc. in various editions. Moreover, it has further clarified the connections among novels' contents, ideology, art, and contemporaneous North Korean social background behind the differences within different editions. Editions in 1976, in contrast with editions in 1950s, had a great feature that all the content modifications were made to improve publications' art level. Language criterions in later editions had been altered, as a consequence related to North Korea's widespread ”Cultural Language” action in 1970s.Compare to editions in 1950s, there was one more prominent feature of 1976 editions that contents about eulogize and loyal to the leader had been added in the novels. This change was greatly related to contemporaneous literary policy in North Korea, especially after North Korea had established one and only ideological social system in 1970s.
