Gifted education has entered a critical period of rejuvenation after a century of development. Because of the theoretical, technical, and social progress made in the past century, the "gifted child paradigm", which has dominated gifted education, is facing increasing challenges, and new paradigms are emerging. In the backdrop of the 21st century education, this article delineates ten megatrends in gifted education. Some of them, such as curriculum and pedagogy, have to do with school reform; others, such as technology and social organization of learning, have to do with societal changes, and still others , such as local initiatives and equity issues, have to do with public education policy. The article also discusses trends in research on gifted education, commensurate with changes in theory, policy, and practice. In essence, the author believes that gifted education is becoming more inclusive and open in terms of its accessibility, and more diversified in the way of offering a variety of advanced opportunities. The new social and technological developments make possible varied and many ways of developing talent and realizing human potential. Making this transition will surely entail more theoretical and practical explorations.
