The creators (authors) and consumers (readers) of Children's literature usually belong to different age groups. Specifically, the creators are generally adults, whereas the readers are children. Children's literature refers to literature works suitable for reading by children aged 3-6 years. Such works are mostly picture books or bridge books between picture and chapter books. From the perspective of teaching activities for students in departments of early childhood care and education, introduction to children's literature and guiding students to appreciate or even compose relevant works may be a direction of teaching (which might even be the only goal of teaching of certain instructors); however, students who graduate from departments of early childhood care and education will be engaged in works related to early childhood education. The teaching goal of children's literature should be instructing the students of said departments how to guide children to create literature works. Accordingly, the teaching goals of a children's literature course can be divided into two: one is to teach the students how to appreciate, analyze, create, and select (browse) children's literature, and the other is to teach students how to guide children to create literature works. On the basis of the second teaching goal, this paper explores how to guide children in preschools to develop their imagination and create children's literature works. This paper includes introduction, design and improvement of traditional course activities, practice and example of course implementation, and discussion and suggestion sections. |
