Acupuncture as Assistant Treatment to Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorders: A Case Report

46歲女性，經診斷為泛視神經脊髓炎（neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders, NMOSD）AQP4（aquaporin 4-IgG）抗體陽性，造成急性胸椎橫斷性脊髓炎（thoracic transverse myelitis T3～T10）併雙下肢癱瘓（paraparesis）。接受常規治療包括靜脈注射類固醇（Methylprednisolone），血漿置換術（plasmapheresis），口服免疫抑制劑（Azathioprine）等，同時在住院期間接受每周3次之針灸治療，主要配穴包括：雙側太衝（LR-03）、內庭（ST-44）、懸鐘（GB-39）、陽陵泉（GB-34）、足三里（ST-36）、下巨虛（ST-39）、頭臨泣（GB-15），出院後轉門診持續針灸治療，前後2個月間共計32次之針灸治療，下肢肌力與活動恢復良好，可以四腳拐杖日常行動，視力模糊症狀亦穩定改善。

A 46 year-old female diagnosed as NMOSD (neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders) with AQP4-IgG(aquaporin-4 immunoglobulin G) seropositive. Subsequently, acute thoracic transverse myelitis (T3~T10) and paraparesis of both legs appeared. She then received routine treatment including Methylprednisolone intravenous injection, 5 sessions of plasmapheresis, and oral Azathioprine. Meanwhile, we arranged traditional acupuncture for her, mainly with the acupoints (bilateral): LR-03, ST-44, GB-39, GB-34, ST-36, ST-39 and GB-15. She received a total of 32 sessions of acupuncture in 9 weeks. Her lower limb weakness improved and she could walk by herself with a quadricane. Her blurred vision of both eyes also improved and maintained.
