A Skew Line Gear Mechanism (SLGM) is one kind of Line Gear (LG) pair transmitting force and motion between two skewed axes. In this paper, main goals are to propose the sliding rate and parameter selection formulae for a SLGM with two vertical skewed axes. First of all, the design formulae of sliding rates for the LG are defined and the sliding rates of a SLGM with two vertical skewed axes are deduced. Then, the characteristics of these sliding rates are analysed. Finally, the design formulae of helix radius of driving contact curve are deduced on basis of the allowable value of sliding rate and verified by means of the simulation in Pro/E and Matlab. This study provides a theoretical basis to calculate, design, and select the sliding rates and design parameters for a SLGM with two vertical skewed axes. |
