Active magnetic bearings offer many advantages that have brought new applications to the industry. However, similarly to all new technology, active magnetic bearings also have downsides, and one of those is the low standardization level. This paper studies ISO 14839 and API 617 standards and more specifically the system verification using simulation methods. These verifying methods are conducted for a designed active magnetic bearings supported rotor system. The system is simulated using a rotor-bearing dynamics research toolbox in MATLAB that is using conventional finite element method to describe the virtual model. The studied verification methods include steady state unbalance response analysis, stability margin analysis, and transient simulation of a drop down of the rotor on safety bearings. This study shows that the standardized methods can be applied in practical problems using simulation tools.
