The main purpose of this article is to develop a new type transmission system that is based on a parallel-type independently controllable transmission (PT-ICT) and capable of increasing, stabilizing speed, and splitting power in a wind turbine system. The transmission system includes an input shaft, a controller shaft, a prime generator output shaft, and a buffer generator output shaft. The controller can independently manipulate the speed of prime generator output shaft that is not affected by the variation of the input speed. To perform kinematic and dynamic experiments, a prototype of PI-ICT is built. The experimental results show the consistency with the design values and the reduction of torque supply in the controller while applying the two excitation generators as a prime generator and a buffer generator. It is expected that applying the transmission system to variable speed wind turbines can obtain high quality electricity without using frequency converters and available wind speed range can be extended. |
