Precision steel ball is one of the most critical components for linear and rolling motions. As precision ball affects the performance of motion system, full inspection of precision balls is an urgent need for industries. This paper is to develop a real-time surface inspection system for precision steel balls with fast and robust method and mechanism. The developed system consists of an optical inspection module as well as an unfolding module to ensure 100% surface inspection of balls. The minimum defect size can be detected by the developed system is 0.01 mm2. The developed system can inspect precision balls with checking rate at 3pcs/sec and missing rate less than 0.2%. The accuracy and robustness of the developed system has been verified against the defect balls. It is proven that the developed system is capable of inspecting steel balls for high precision bearings. |
