The present study examines the contexts of jiāting in terms of conceptual blending (Fauconnier & Turner, 1998, 2002) with the data taken from Academia Sinica Balanced Corpus of Modern Chinese. We aim to find out: 1. How do people in Taiwan conceptualize family? 2. What dimensions of conceptual blending are employed in the conception of jiātíng? 3. How does prototype theory assist demonstrating the conceptualization of jiātíng? The results show the prototypical concept of family in the language community and manifest five dimensions of compression in conceptual blending: identity, part-whole, space, cause-effect and time. Through cognitive linguistic analysis, the way we perceive the world and store the experience in our mind is made clear.
