Analysis of Internet's Portrayal of Nurses Based on Images on the World Wide Web

國外媒體研究顯示護理形象經常被電影或電視扭曲，然而，針對網際網路上的形象與所代表的圖像之研究仍然缺乏。本研究於2014年12月9日利用Google圖像搜尋引擎，分別以護理師、護理人員和護士三組關鍵詞各取排名前20位的圖像加以分析。結果顯示以護士關鍵詞的搜尋出現較多在個人網誌、討論區或圖庫類型的網站，以護理師和護理人員關鍵詞的搜尋則出現較多於官方網站或新聞資訊網站中。顯示主角在照顧病患相關工作，以護理師和護理人員關鍵詞的搜尋比護士顯著為高，以護士關鍵詞所得的照片人物中含有性暗示衣著或肢體語言者佔四分之一。綜合而言，以護理師或護理人員兩個關鍵詞搜尋所得的圖像大致正面，但以護士一詞搜尋的結果則存著成見。

International media research has shown that the portrayal of nurses is often distorted by movies and television programs. Nevertheless, research that focuses on the images of nurses on the Internet is still scarce. A Google Images search was conducted on December 9, 2014 using three separate terms for nurses: ＂registered nurse＂ (hù lǐ shī), ＂nursing staff＂ (hù lǐ rén yuán), and ＂nurse＂ (hù shì), to obtain and analyzed the first 20 photographs retrieved. Results showed that when searched with the term ＂nurse＂, most images were from personal blogs, forums, or image banks, whereas when searched with the terms ＂registered nurse＂ or ＂nursing staff＂, images mainly came from official websites of organizations or news websites. Regarding images showing activities related to patient care, the proportions were significantly higher when searched with the terms ＂registered nurse＂ and ＂nursing staff＂, compared with that obtained with the term ＂nurse＂. In addition, about a quarter of the images obtained using the term ＂nurse＂ exhibited sexual innuendo in the individuals' apparel or body language. In conclusion, the images were generally positive when the terms ＂registered nurse＂ and ＂nursing staff＂ were used. However, stereotypical views were evident when the search term was ＂nurse＂.
