Ogilvie's症是形容病人在沒有任何腸道內或外造成壓迫的情況下而產生的腸阻塞症狀，是故又名急性假性腸阻塞，acute colonic pseudo-obstruction (ACPO)。常發生在共病多、或剛遭受嚴重創傷或重大手術而衰弱的病人。因為這類病人的腸道仍可能呈現像是由漲大到扁塌截斷的漸變帶，故臨床上仍要小心排除有其他機械性阻塞的可能病因。治療的首要目的為腸道減壓，一開始的治療主要包含腸鏡檢查、肛管引流等方法，加上促進腸胃蠕動藥物、消漲及副交感神經興奮劑等藥物的使用。由於這類病患的高手術風險，只有在上述的保守藥物治療無效，或臨床上懷疑會有腸穿孔情況時，才會考慮手術治療。
