喝咖啡是很多人的習慣,但咖啡一直不被視為是健康的飲料。近年有很多研究顯示喝咖啡可減少糖尿病、心血管疾病、癌症的發生率以及死亡率,2015 年美國飲食指引也首次提到適量的飲用咖啡可包含在健康的飲食形態中。但要注意現有的相關研究都屬觀察性的研究,觀察性的研究有其無法避免的缺陷,其結果仍可能有誤差;只有控制良好之隨機式研究才能完全避免干擾,確立咖啡與慢性病、死亡率之間的因果關係。目前已有喝咖啡習慣者可以放心地飲用,但在有更多、更有力的研究證實咖啡對於健康的好處之前,尚不建議為了促進健康而鼓勵多喝咖啡。
