堅果富含蛋白質、不飽和脂肪酸、纖維、維他命、礦物質、植化醇和茶多酚等,如每天適量食用,可減少總膽固醇和低密度膽固醇,降低高血壓和心血管疾病發生。最近亦有報告認為,堅果可減少糖化血紅素,降低糖尿病風險,且不會增加體重,對預防年長者慢性疾病,有所助益。
