自1990年代開始發展胸腔微創手術後，一直到近十多年才在病患照護與手術技巧上有顯著的突破。術式上，現在已從傳統的胸廓切開術(thoracotomy)發展到不插管(non-intubated)的單孔內視鏡操作、經劍突下(subxiphoid)單孔胸腔鏡手術(single-port VATS)、甚至最新的無管(tubeless)手術。經肚臍(transumbilical)，或透過自然孔洞(natural orifice)操作進行胸腔內視鏡手術的方法目前也在動物實驗的階段。基於對進步的渴望，創造改變的願景，與提供更好的病患照護品質，臺灣目前有多位胸腔外科醫生積極投入在此領域的發展與創新，為臺灣的外科界注入更多的動能。本篇文章將對臺灣近幾年在胸腔鏡微創手術與臨床創新的發展概況提供回顧以及概述。
