POEMS症候群為一種多樣化症狀組合而成的疾病，患者可能出現多發性周邊神經病變、器官腫大、內分泌異常、單株漿細胞病變、皮膚變化等症狀。其主要的病生理機轉目前沒有定論，推測與漿細胞增生失調和其造成的全身性發炎反應有關。診斷仰賴臨床醫師的高度警覺。治療上目前缺乏大規模隨機分派的臨床試驗來確立治療準則，根據疾病狀態與患者身體狀況可採用放射線治療、化學治療、或骨髓幹細胞移植作為治療方式。
