遠距醫療（telemedicine）隨著科技的進步取得了顯著發展，遠距醫療的定義為透過數位科技來改善病人臨床照護的結果，除了改變醫療團隊和病人之間的互動，也促進不同專科醫生之間的溝通交流。遠距醫療有多方面優勢，包括：不受專科和地理限制、更富時間彈性和節省醫療花費等。然而，遠距醫療的推廣也面臨一些挑戰，如視訊及網路的穩定性、使用者對於視訊操作的學習成本及保險給付銷帳等問題。COVID-19疫情期間，遠距醫療的重要性更加突出，全世界的使用率都大幅提升，而在臺灣，遠距醫療的政策和實踐也得到了快速推動。遠距醫療在診斷性醫學、急症和慢性病管理中都有廣泛應用。在診斷性醫學方面，遠距皮膚科、放射科和病理科等都有成功的應用案例；在急症處理上，遠距醫療能快速啟動治療措施，尤其在中風和急性冠心症的處理上有明顯效果；而在慢性病管理方面，遠距視訊醫療的臨床結果並不比面對面醫療差，遠距視訊醫療有潛力運用在各式各樣的慢性病控制。總體來說，遠距醫療不僅在技術上逐漸成熟，也在實際應用中展現出巨大的潛力，未來需要更多高品質的大型研究來進一步驗證遠距醫療介入在不同疾病的臨床效果，而我們醫療人員也應該保持熱誠去學習新的醫療科技，期許能利用科技的發展為病人創造福祉。
