美國博物館認定的評量工作沒有課程教導的主要原因是:認定程序本身就是一個「活體存在」的文化生命,它是博物館的根本成員對這個博物館主題的價值評斷,而不是任何專業學者學術性的判定。只有從該館的從業人員按他們平日運作的價值觀所呈現出的資料,由外來的資深同儕,依博物館界同類文化一般性的準則來做質性的判斷,建議該館做可能性的改善,才能將肩負社會文化的重任繼續委託這個博物館。如果用課程制式的標準來決定,再加上這些課程因學術歷史性的、傳統性的壓力,而遵循一些既有的、被制度化的、已成定論的課程模具來訓練博物館人、加工博物館人,博物館就會成為模式,而無法承載活生生的文化。
