On October 28, 2022, a legislator disclosed that the collections of the National Palace Museum (NPM) had suffered accidental damage. Although the director had expressed the desire that this incident not be made public, as soon as the news came out NPM provided immediate clarification, emphasizing that the notifications following this incident were in accordance with standard procedures and that no details had been withheld. This incident attracted much media attention, becoming part of the news cycle for more than three weeks. The "Damaged Porcelain in NPM" incident has been a very representative art crisis event in recent years. In this study, Benoit (1997) image restoration strategies served as the framework to conduct rhetorical analysis and content analysis of Taiwan's mainstream newspapers (China Times, United Daily News and Liberty Times), with the aim of discussing NPM's crisis communication strategies. Also discussed is the media effectiveness of NPM's crisis communication strategies, based on news framing, major news sources, and media evaluation.
