中文摘要 |
The coworking space movement first emerged in the United States and Europe as a safe middle ground between collaboration in a sharing economy and keeping one's business identity or personal goal. The aim of this research is to know the design attributes of coworking spaces that are preferred by their users in Cebu, Philippines vis-a-vis the users' perception of green design features, deriving implications for the design of a coworking space. It employs a user-centered design approach and selected LEED v4 ID+C green building criteria, through survey method and the Zaltman Metaphor Elicitation Technique (ZMET). The findings show that for most Cebu coworking users - many of them young students and workers in the IT and marketing industry - practicality and function are the most important factors that should influence the design of a coworking space. Users in Cebu are motivated to use a coworking space to enhance their productivity while giving less priority to collaboration and social interaction. This diverges from the common original view that coworking spaces are places for interaction and collaboration. The users' positive perception of green building attributes supports the practicability of incorporating green design features in the user-centered design (UCD), and thus reinforces the assumption that workplace green features have a positive impact on users. The research concludes with suggestions for a localized and sustainable coworking space design. Experimental study and participant observation research are recommended as further studies to determine if the proposed design can positively affect the efficiency of work among users. |
