"Shen Du" is regarded as an important concept of Confucianism. This article focuses on the concept of sincerity theory in Xunzi's "No-gou," treating "sense independence" as the core concept connecting to the ideological path of Xunzi's sincerity theory. From the perspective of Xunzi's thought, "Shen Du" is both equivalent to "sincerity" as well as conceptually broader than sincerity. "Shen Du" addresses inherent moral subjectivity. It also refers to the heart's ability to understand, as well as awareness of the changes in self-affections. Only by being aware of changes of self-affections, can we grasp the laws of change, so we can understand ourselves and then understand others. In so doing, a "Junzi" is then able to do the work of educating people and doing all things well. Xunzi emphasizes the "group way" of "capability of the group," which also derives from "Shen Du." Only when the monarch respects his own ethical role will he know how to respect the existence of others and sets goal towards a society with distributive justice.
