Granting service‐oriented enterprises with patent rights to their innovative achievements, namely, business method patents, can maintain their enthusiasm and improve the quality of innovation. Based on the panel data of the number of patent applications and grants of various categories of business method patents in China from 2001 to 2020 on the Google Patents search platform, this paper aims to forecast and analyze the vitality and capability of Chinese enterprises' service innovation with the methods of the GM(1,1) gray forecast model with equal dimension. The forecast results show that Chinese service enterprises are increasingly enthusiastic about protecting business method patents, with their ability to make innovations being improved. In addition, the Chinese government should continue to improve the corresponding patent laws in the service sector and promote high‐quality economic development in China by strengthening intellectual property protection and driving service innovation.
