由於雙薪家庭的增加，使得家中並無充足人力照護高齡者，以至於高齡者必須進入長期式照護機構，度過晚年生活。這樣的情形其實對高齡者來說打擊甚重，導致其身心靈皆無法獲得平復，進而產生之自卑心理而充斥其餘生，同時認為自己是被遺忘的過去，被遺棄的未來。 行政院主計處98年底登記全台接受日間照顧服務的高齡者數量為615人，99年底增加為898人， 截至100年6月人數已達1,023人。而日間照顧服務機構也從97年的31間增至為100年的69間。從機構數量與服務人數增加的現象來看，「日間照護」可能成為今後產存學界必須面對之課題，以實現「在地老化」作為前提，藉此延緩高齡者進入長期照護機構的時間。 本研究從實地觀察高齡者使用日間照護空間之實質情形，進一步探討其空間使用偏好，以及與他人互動和活動參與程度之狀況。最後提出高齡者在日間照顧機構時，其使用行為於不同空間需求之具體發現。例如在空間情境模擬上面發現日間照護的分組照顧空間當中，廚房、餐廳、客廳這三個空間類型不斷被重組與融合，不論是大尺度的模擬還是小尺度的借景，都可以在單元照顧空間裡看到這三個空間的影子出現。

Due to nuclear family structure of small-size, double-income family, care-taking of elderly members is generally turned to the hands of senior citizen nursing centers which provide space and program for old age lives. Such a resolution may lead to negative impacts such as sensing inferiority, deserted, and life without future, to the elderly. According to the publicized statistics of Executive Yuan, the number of the elderly population under such a service is increasing annually from about six hundred to more than one thousand. Fortunately, adult daycare institutes particularly held for local residents have at least doubled in the last three years. This becomes an important issue to every family as long as the centers nearby provide sufficient service for the elderly on daily or periodical basis. The elderly may age locally without shifting to a highly equipped nursing center far away from home. This study intends to learn in more detail about the environmental arrangements and if the users enjoy their short stay in these local daycare centers while interacting with the others. It is found, for instance, it is common for the users to be categorized into various groups according to a person’s level of activity. Hence, food and lodging are provided to cater to the general demands of the person.
