Air pollution become worse in southern Taiwan. In this study, the numerical method was used to simulate solar beam and the falling dust was collected at the specific place to investigate solar thermal energy experimentally and numerically. By the CFD technique, solar thermal beam was simulated on the observation plane, and the numerical diffuse fraction was adjusted to represent the dustfall quantity. In the experiment, the platform with specific position and angle of the light source adjusted by the PLC controllers and the frame including the light source has been set up and conducted. Under this indoor experiment, the glasses with dustfall were installed inside the platform, and the temperature and irradiance on the observation plane have been measured. The dust quantity was weighted by a micro scale. Dustfall was recorded during 20 days in each month from May to August in 2016. We found that dust amount is critical to temperature and irradiance. Moreover, irradiance attenuation was as high as 10.47% in June and it decreased by the amount of 59.5W/m2. The numerical diffuse factions have been tuned to fit the experimental data the simulated maximal and minimal temperatures at 54˚C and 39˚C respectively, and numerical temperature contours compared with the thermal imager’s results have the similar trends.
