Suzhou was the place of economic development in the Ming Dynasty. Because of the conditions of economic development, living standards have improved and life has become diverse and prosperous. The customs of Suzhou in the late Ming society has a variety of ethos such as retro, luxury, and novel, then guide the society to become a unique and important trend. Especially the literati's love for Qingtian stone (青田石)and Shoushan stone(壽山石) makes the stone easy to be carved, so that Suzhou literati can directly create the art of seal carving. These have changed the mode of cooperation between the original writer and the craftsman in seal cutting. At the same time, literati also incorporated concepts such as philology, calligraphy, and painting theory into the knowledge construction of seal studies. These upgrade the pure seal cutting technique to the spiritual expression of aesthetics. Then reflects the participation of Suzhou literati in the art of seal cutting, and presents their spiritual value.
