魯本斯勤於臨摹義大利文藝復興前輩大師作品，結合法蘭德斯的藝術傳統，創造出融合兩地藝術的新風格，在西洋藝術史上居承先啟後的地位。他開創巴洛克雄渾的畫風，色彩絢麗，形體結實，光線明暗對比強烈，突出主題，採用對角線構圖，增加戲劇性的動感，在繪畫的技巧、題材和風格上，都有重大的突破和創新。
